Warm weather is just around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about your next resident event. In May, there are many exciting events and activities that you can host in your apartment complex. If you need some inspiration, take a look at our top apartment resident event ideas for May 2023.
Honor LGBTQ Elders Day – This day recognizes the thousands of people in the LGBTQ community who have paved the way for rights and social acceptance. You can celebrate by organizing an LGTBQ event where elder residents can speak about their experiences. This can come in the form of a coffee, seminar, or luncheon recognizing LGBTQ elders for their contributions to the community. Make sure to partner with local organizations to help you curate the events and provide you with any resources you may need.
Car Wash for Residents – Allow your team to bond by hosting a resident carwash. Demonstrate how much you care for them and get creative with it. Offer snacks, beverages, and fun activities while they are washing cars. Who wouldn’t like seeing their property manager in action? Host an unforgettable event that will leave your residents feeling valued! You could even go one step further and make this into a fundraising event for a local charity.
Fitness Classes – Host a range of events that encourage your residents to get active. Offer classes in things like yoga or Zumba sessions. You can ask residents what fitness classes they’d like to attend. You could then inspire them to set up their weekly group meetings.

Cinco de Mayo on May 5th: In celebration of this Mexican holiday, host a party that honors the heritage and culture of the Mexican people. Serve traditional Mexican plates and drinks such as margaritas, with short descriptions of the food’s origin. Encourage residents to try and speak Spanish throughout the party. You can also set up a tasting bar serving tequila and mezcal with an expert to give your residents a complete understanding of the complexities and history of the alcohol.
National Beverage Day on May 6th: Host a fun resident event that will give you the opportunity to sample a wide range of beverages, meet your neighbors, and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Have a variety of drinks on offer, from hot and cold coffee drinks to fruity iced teas, sparkling waters, and more!
National American Red Cross Founder’s Day on May 21st: Reach out to a local Red Cross facility and host a blood drive. Set up a sign-up sheet with different time slots where residents can stop by and give blood. Also, set up a space where residents can rest after giving blood, including any snacks to help them back on their feet to continue about their day.
Memorial Day on May 29th: As we honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, invite residents to join in commemorating Memorial Day. This year, bring the spirit of the holiday to everyone’s apartment community with a range of activities and events for residents of all ages. From flag-raising ceremonies and patriotic decorations to outdoor cookouts and social gatherings, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
