May 2023 Apartment Resident Event Ideas For Multifamily Property Managers
Warm weather is just around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about your next resident event. In May, there are many exciting events and activities that you can host in your apartment complex. If you need some inspiration, take a look at our top apartment resident event ideas for May 2023.
Honor LGBTQ Elders Day – This day recognizes the thousands of people in the LGBTQ community who have paved the way for rights and social acceptance. You can celebrate by organizing an LGTBQ event where elder residents can speak about their experiences. This can come in the form of a coffee, seminar, or luncheon recognizing LGBTQ elders for their contributions to the community. Make sure to partner with local organizations to help you curate the events and provide you with any resources you may need.
Car Wash for Residents – Allow your team to bond by hosting a resident carwash. Demonstrate how much you care for them and get creative with it. Offer snacks, beverages, and fun activities while they are washing cars. Who wouldn’t like seeing their property manager in action? Host an unforgettable event that will leave your residents feeling valued! You could even go one step further and make this into a fundraising event for a local charity.
Fitness Classes – Host a range of events that encourage your residents to get active. Offer classes in things like yoga or Zumba sessions. You can ask residents what fitness classes they’d like to attend. You could then inspire them to set up their weekly group meetings.
Outdoor Cinema – Give families and parents a break by providing young residents with an unforgettable experience! Spread out the blankets, pop some popcorn, and rent or hang up a screen to play classic family movies. When it gets dark outside, everyone can relax under the stars while watching the film together.
Pool Parties – Transform your community pool party into a memorable experience for the kids using giant inflatables and games. Set up some music and poolside snacks for parents to enjoy while mingling as the children play.
Food Truck Extravaganza – With the warmer days, hosting a party with food trucks is a fantastic way to let your apartment community experience the local culture, sights, sounds, and tastes without worrying about catering too much. Invite the best food vendors in town to park their mobile restaurants in your neighborhood for a fun-filled celebration! This will also be an excellent opportunity for new residents to get acquainted with new businesses. To ensure your residents can get a taste of all the food trucks, play some music and generate vouchers for them.
Bike-to-Work Day – In honor of Bike-to-work day, host a bike party for residents that own one. Have everyone meet in the lobby simultaneously and ride off to their respective jobs. Once residents return home, you can continue the party with a social ride through the community with a theme. Whether that’s an 80s theme to a music-themed party, create an easy bike path for all ages.
May “National Holiday” Celebrations
Every month we highlight “National Days” that make for great apartment resident events and activities. All of these come from the National Day Calendar and are a great reason to have an event or activity for your apartment residents!
Kentucky Derby Day on May 1st: Host a Derby watch party to kick off the horse racing season. Have your residents fully dressed up and provide food and drinks. Be sure to serve the classic Mint Julep cocktails to enjoy during the event. Broadcast the Kentucky Derby live on your patio area and have chairs set up for residents to sit, eat, and chat.
Cinco de Mayo on May 5th: In celebration of this Mexican holiday, host a party that honors the heritage and culture of the Mexican people. Serve traditional Mexican plates and drinks such as margaritas, with short descriptions of the food’s origin. Encourage residents to try and speak Spanish throughout the party. You can also set up a tasting bar serving tequila and mezcal with an expert to give your residents a complete understanding of the complexities and history of the alcohol.
National Beverage Day on May 6th: Host a fun resident event that will give you the opportunity to sample a wide range of beverages, meet your neighbors, and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Have a variety of drinks on offer, from hot and cold coffee drinks to fruity iced teas, sparkling waters, and more!
National American Red Cross Founder’s Day on May 21st: Reach out to a local Red Cross facility and host a blood drive. Set up a sign-up sheet with different time slots where residents can stop by and give blood. Also, set up a space where residents can rest after giving blood, including any snacks to help them back on their feet to continue about their day.
Memorial Day on May 29th: As we honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, invite residents to join in commemorating Memorial Day. This year, bring the spirit of the holiday to everyone’s apartment community with a range of activities and events for residents of all ages. From flag-raising ceremonies and patriotic decorations to outdoor cookouts and social gatherings, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
