Ranking America’s Largest Shopping Malls

Where do you go when you want to shop until you drop? Or maybe visit not two, but three Macy’s at the same time? The answer is one of America’s largest shopping malls. Even as retail leasing lags, these mega-malls continue to thrive. Just how big are we talking? The leasable retail space of our number 1 ranked mall, which might surprise some people, is the size of 48 football fields!

To make this list the only criteria was being considered one continous indoor shopping mall. Outdoor shopping centers were not eligible. The order of the list is based on gross leasable area. Here are America’s largest shopping malls based on Property Manager Insider’s rankings.

King of Prussia Mall: King of Prussia, PA – 2,793,000 Sq. Ft.

Surprised to see this well known Philadelphia mall at the top of the list? Don’t be, it took over the top spot in 2016, when the two original buildings were converted into one space. It edges out the number two mall by just 14,000 sq. ft. Just how big is the King of Prussia Mall? It employs over 7,000 daily workers and attracts 25,000,000 annual visitors. Since many visitors do not cover the entire mall when they visit, many retailers have more than 1 store.
